Israel - Follow The Money

1.Israeli exports: From $6M to $80B

Israel's exports rose from some $6 million 63 years ago to some $80.5 billion in 2010. While in the beginning Israel exported mostly citrus fruit and diamonds, and had very little industrial exports, the main component in the State's exports today is in the technological industries: Electronics, software and computerized systems, communications and medical equipment. Agricultural exports, which reached $1.3 billion in 2010, make up only 2% of Israel's exports these days. Read further http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4067275,00.html

2.Elbit and Defense Ministry plan giant cargo UAV

"Defense News" reports that Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) is working with the Ministry of Defense to develop unmanned cargo plane, dubbed the "Flying Elephant". Sources say that cargo an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is a "huge, slow, self takeoff and landing pallet carrier that would fly through high winds and land in austere, unpaved areas."

3.Israel world's top investor in R&D

Israel is the world's top investor in R&D as a proportion of GDP in 2011, according to the World Competitiveness Index of 59 countries by Switzerland's IMD Business School. Israel is ranked 17th in competitiveness overall, the same as in 2010. Israel was also ranked first by IMD in the functioning of central banks. Hong Kong and the US tied for first place in global competitiveness this year, taking over from Singapore, which fell to third place.

4.Solution for Israel's water shortage on the horizon

From Shalomlife: The answer to Israel’s age-old problem of a lack of water appears one step closer to being solved with the announcement that financing has been secured for a $400 million desalination plant in the centre of the country. The plant, which will be built by SDL, slated for completion in 2013, will be the world’s second largest plant of its kind, expected to produce 150 million cubic metres of water a year. The European Investment Bank and Israel's two largest banks, Leumi and Hapoalim, provided funding for the project, which, through desalination, will account for more than 65 percent of the water needs of Israeli households.

5.Elbit Imaging invests $500M in India

Israeli conglomerate Elbit Imaging has announced its plan to invest $500 million in real estate projects in India, the Wall Street Journal reported last week. The company entered India in 2006 and has since invested about $400 million to buy land in central and southern Indian states. Elbit Imaging and its subsidiary Plaza Centers NV want to build a diversified real-estate portfolio in India, the report said, consisting of residential, office and retail projects.

6.Turkey Israel's 3rd largest export market in Q1

Notwithstanding political tensions between Israel and Turkey, Turkey rose to Israel's third largest export market in the first quarter from ninth place in the corresponding quarter of 2010, the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute reports today. Exports of goods (excluding diamonds) to Turkey totaled $500 million in the first quarter, 73% more than in the corresponding quarter. Israel's top ten export markets are, in order, the US, the Netherlands, Turkey, Germany, China, Italy, the UK, India, France, and Canada.

1.Better Place: Electric cars this summer

Shalom Life: Better Place, the California start-up founded by Israeli businessman Shai Agassi, will begin selling electric cars in Israel this summer. Last month, Better Place introduced its battery replacement solution. These battery replacement stations, along with the thousands of charging stations being placed all over Israel, will make Israel the first fully electric networked country and a pilot for the rest of the world.

1.Wheat prices jumped on Wednesday, taking the week's gains to 17%, an ascent that threatens to put fresh pressure on fragile Middle East governments that import the grain to feed their people.Wet weather in the U.S. and dryness in Western Europe are driving the recent rise. Wheat futures jumped 53 cents, or 7%, to $8.17 per bushel Wednesday, the biggest single-day dollar gain in more than seven months, and are now up 91% in less than a year. Tunisians eat more wheat than anyone on the planet: 478 pounds per person a year, compared to 177 pounds in the U.S. Egyptians and Algerians also eat more than twice as much wheat as Americans, says the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization.

COMMENT: And this is not a Mcdonalds success story.

2.China is now the world's leading gold bug. From the WSJ: Chinese investors are snapping up gold bars and coins, buying more than ever before in the first quarter of 2011 and overtaking Indian buyers as the world's biggest purchasers of the metal. A growing middle-class in China is raising the appetite for gold there. China's investment demand for gold more than doubled to 90.9 metric tons in the first three months of the year, outpacing India's modest rise to 85.6 tons, the World Gold Council said in its quarterly report on Thursday. China now accounts for 25% of gold investment demand, compared with India's 23%.

COMMENT: We unashamedly state our belief that gold is the only honest currency.

3.Robert Shiller sees no reason to believe in a resurgence of consumer spending, considering that the real unemployment rate, by his calculation, is 15.9 percent, and housing is headed south again. "'Even at this point, with the recession technically over, we are in the worst financial shape we've been in since the Great Depression,” he told an audience in Las Vegas, reported InvestmentNews.com. Shiller’s unemployment figure counts unemployed, underemployed, and people forced into early retirement by the economy. Other
economists estimate that real unemployment figure to be much higher.

COMMENT: Its time to call a spade a spade.

4.MOSCOW—In an unexpected move, Russia's central bank raised its deposit rate by 0.25 percentage point Monday, surprising markets by tightening monetary policy for the second consecutive month.

COMMENT:Interest rate rises and belt tightening across the globe, while US rates remain low, create the basis for further devaluation of the US Dollar. As the USD weakens so US debt lessens and equity markets stabilise. So far so good.

5.Rare earths came under the spotlight two years ago after China started to reduce export quotas. Beijing's influence aroused concern when exports of rare earths to Japan were temporarily suspended after a diplomatic dispute. China has continued clamping down on production and sale of rare earth elements, citing a need to clean up highly polluting production processes and to stop illegal exports. Statistics collected in Hong Kong show exports of rare earth metals have shrunk in half over the past year. Over the same period, the value of exports has soared to more than $121,000 per tonne, a 10-fold jump from a year ago..

COMMENT: Please read "The Middle East has oil, China has Rare Earths" on this blog from October 15th.

The Peanut Gallery

Statements, comments and forecasts that have no substance, but just might turn out to be relevant.

1.Donald Trump is out of it and there is a huge sigh of relief from the peanut gallery (yes, even from here). The Republicans and the Tea Party don't appear to have a creditable candidate who is not in the buffoon type mode. Looks like nobody wants the job.

2.Iran, North Korea and Pakistan are co-operating in the production of ballistic missiles. Apparently China is facilitating the sanctions busting. looks like China will stop at nothing and nothing will stop China in its pot stirring charge for world leadership.

3.In spite of forecasts to the contrary, gold the only honest currency, is holding its own above the 1500 mark. Reports of the early demise of silver appear to have been grossly exaggerated. Apparently more silver has been shorted than actually exists. I would hate to be caught in a short squeeze on the metal.

4.The real unemployment rate in the US is running at about 16%. The official name for this rate is the U-6. The attempts by the administration to hide the truth of this figure from the public will backfire if employment does not improve. The peanut gallery does not believe the employment stats will improve in the near future.

5.Barack Obama can pose as many times as he wants as "The man who shot Osama BL". The next election will be a vote on his leadership in one field only......Its the economy, stupid! Ask Bush senior.

6.There is no such thing as the arab spring. What we really have here is the collapse of a group of poor countries unable to compete economically and the west (the bankrupt west, that is...) rushing to give aid before total bankruptcy takes hold. They call it money for democracy. What a load of hogwash.

7. As regards the "arab spring", George Friedman of Stratfor says "not every demonstration is an uprising, not every uprising is a revolution and not every revolution leads to democracy". Smart man.

8.The only way to repay US Debt is to continue to allow the USD to devalue. Note that US equity markets rise when the dollar falls and vica versa.

9.Look for calls for a national unity government in Israel, come September. Expect a lot of noise and  possibly a new intifada. As for "democracy".... a new code word to fool those that believe evil does not exist and to sponge on central bank printing machines while naive Infidels in the US sprout intellectualism.

10.Last word from the peanut gallery. A word of advice to the world of Islam. It would be a grave mistake to think that all Americans are naive. It would be the final fatal mistake.

Anticipate opportunities and problems. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Thats a return of sixteen to one! - Larry Malinowski, PH.D.

The Muslim World

1.AMMAN—Iraq signed an initial agreement to buy natural gas from former foe Iran to fuel power plants, a spokesman for the Iraqi electricity ministry said Monday, as the government seeks to ease the electricity shortages that last year provoked a wave of nationwide protests. Iraq's electricity ministry and Iran's oil ministry signed the five-year agreement for 25 million cubic meters a day.

COMMENT: American forces are due to leave Iraq by year end. They will be most appreciated for bringing democracy to Iraq...at least according to Obama. The above is a perfect example. Looks like the Sanctions against Iran are succeeding.

2.Syrian protesters in the eastern city of Albu Kamal are torching photographs of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, activists said Friday after an opposition group reported security forces opened fire on a late-night protest, killing four people.

COMMENT: According to Obama, these are pro-democracy forces. Really? Looks like anti-Iran, pro-Saudi demonstartors.

3.SAN'A, Yemen — Fighting that rocked San'a for the past five days spread beyond the capital on Friday as Yemeni tribesmen opposed to the rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh attacked a Republican Guard military camp in battles that left dozens dead and prompted airstrikes by government warplanes, according to a tribal leader. At least 109 people have been killed by this week's street battles in the capital between security forces loyal to Mr. Saleh and fighters from Yemen's most powerful tribal confederation, the Hashid, which has joined the popular uprising against the longtime ruler.

COMMENT: So far the "arab spring" has produced two civil wars (Libya and Yemen) and two bankrupt countries (Egypt and Tunisia). The aid for these two countries has nothing to do with democracy. Saudi Arabia's
$4B and Quatar's $10B plus $2B from the US are donated to prop up pro-Sunni and pro-west regimes. Lets face it, neither Saudi or Quatar are democracies. The rest (G8), are pledges of aid but no official announcement yet.

4.Hamas is moving its headquarters from Damascus to Egypt, and the terror group is strengthening itself in the Sinai, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee Monday. He also noted that the Muslim Brotherhood, from which Hamas sprung, also has become a more powerful force in Egypt since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak.

COMMENT: Paid for by Obama.....In the name of democracy!

The oldest, shortest words - "Yes" and "No" - are those which require the most thought. - Pythagoras

The Obama Speech: Part Two

No matter how many friends and family criticise my view of American president Barack Obama, I stand on my position that this man is detached from reality. At one point, he seemed to be on a learning curve, but his latest speech on the Middle East has dispelled any illusions. We have already commented on the Israel-Palestine part of the speech. Some were surprised by this part of the speech, but when expectations are zero it is difficult to be surprised. Same old, same old and doomed to failure, but an honest attempt. By far the really worrisome aspect of the speech is his delusional support of "democratic" forces in the area, and the promise of financial aid to countries moving in this direction.

To remove any doubt in anybody's mind, nearly all decent freedom loving people on this planet are in favour of the Obama vision of Utopia. Life usually gets in the way. We grow up and realize that not every meal is a picnic. Its easy to take the high road on a full stomach. What exactly is Obama offering them? Democracy? Economic aid? Thats grand, coming from a democracy where the real unemployment rate is close to 16% (google it, if you dont believe the number), a democracy drowning in debt and a leader who lives in a virtual reality bubble where they hand out billions of printed US dollars in debt and call it economic assistance. Lets take a closer look at some of the terminology used in the speech.

He called rioters in Syria "forces for democracy". The CIA and most intelligence agencies will back up the following: The rioters in Syria are Sunni Muslims sponsored by the Muslim Brotherhood (another democratic pro-Obama organization, and please excuse the sarcasm), financed by Saudi Arabia and attempting to bring down the elitist Alouite (a form of Shia) minority government. The purpose of the uprising is to break the Iran-Syria-Hizbullah alliance. And this is part of the Saudi Sunnis vs Iranian Shia struggle for control of the Persian Gulf and the oil supply.

He then points to the success of democracy in Iraq (a George Bush delusion), and a war correctly opposed by Obama. It probably looked good on paper, so the demagogue Obama is conveniently supporting democracy in Iraq while hundreds are being murdered on a weekly basis in that country. If I may adventure an uneducated guess, the US withdrawal at the end of this year, will lead to a the majority Shiite population in Iraq taking control of that country. Another Iranian step towards control of the Persian Gulf and the oil supply.

Obama:"Egyptians have made it clear that nothing less than genuine democracy will carry the day," Lets follow the money and see where we stand today. 2 billion dollars for debt relief and guaranteed borrowing to allow for growth and infrastructure. The last published figure for Egyptian international debt is close to USD35B. GNP was about USD180B before the Arab Spring. Egypt's major foreign currency income is from tourism. Thats now close to zero. No investment in Egypt, in fact an outflow of funds. Their major staple is bread (the Egyptians eat double the amount of bread that Americans do...Macdonalds and all). The price of wheat has doubled over the last year and risen almost 20% in the last week. Foreign currency reserves used to buy wheat is dwindling to the point where the Egyptian goverment no longer publishes figures.

Obama's aid package is a pittance, a drop in the ocean, good money after bad, a cheap election ploy so transparent that it will eventually backfire. And it sounded so wonderful coming from the eloquent Obama. What a visionary! The minimum requirement for a democracy and free market system to function is a basic educational system. 36% of Egyptians over the age of 15 are illiterate. Not a good picture. The so-called arab spring looks like an economic catastrophe in the making, and Obama is starting to look like Nero playing his fiddle while Rome burned. From an Egyptian point of view, they would be better off aligning with China.

And where does Israel fit into all this. After boldly withdrawing from Gaza and Lebanon, and signing the Oslo accords, all in the name of peace, Israel is still the villain. Israel still needs to take bold steps for peace. After two wars and possibly two more on the way, any withdrawal would be insanity. Add to that, Missiles in Gaza, missiles in Lebanon, an Egyptian economy on the verge of collapse and an American president who talks friendship, but buries allies in less time than it takes to say "Jack Robinson". I wonder what arab leaders across the globe were thinking during the speech? In one fell blow, Obama alienated most of the non-democratic world, basically declaring war on them, inciting revolution and setting the stage for a bloody confrontation. All on national TV. Oh the arrogance of it all!

The Muslim World

1.CAIRO -- Muslim mobs set two Cairo churches on fire overnight during sectarian clashes that left 12 dead and more than 200 injured. The deepening religious violence in military-ruled Egypt exacerbated an already chaotic and lawless transition to democracy.

COMMENT: What democracy? Muslim vs Christian

2.Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has dismissed three key ministers, including the oil minister, as part of a proposed merger between ministries, the president's website said Saturday. The move comes amid mounting tensions between Mr. Ahmadinejad on one side and lawmakers and the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the other. In addition to oil minister Masoud Mirkazemi, Industry and Mines minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian has also been removed, the statement on the presidential website said.

COMMENT: So much for honor amongst thieves...

3.A mysterious man known by some as the Iranian president’s “exorcist” has been arrested, in the latest sign that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s involvement with purveyors of the so-called “dark arts” is raising concerns among Iran’s leadership. Abbas Ghaffari, described as Ahmadinejad’s “exorcist” or “jinn (genie) catcher” is reportedly among a number of people in Ahmadinejad’s circle who have been arrested lately, amid reports of continuing strains between the president and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. As is typical in Iran, details on the timing and specific charges behind the arrests are somewhat murky.

COMMENT: What is going on with this lunatic? On second thoughts, this might explain his delusional leadership.

4.Authorities detained a Saudi woman on Saturday after she launched a campaign against the driving ban for women in the ultraconservative kingdom and posted a video of herself behind the wheel on Facebook and YouTube to encourage others to copy her.

COMMENT: Thats Barack and Hillary's new baby. They must be watching this from the 50th floor of the State Department. Wonder if this women sees them from the basement? She must have been inspired by Obama's example of a the Tunisian man who set himself on fire. This one is on you Barack baby!

5.Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has accused Western countries of plotting to "cause drought" in Iran by using high tech equipment to drain the clouds of raindrops. Moments after the Iranian president made the startling claim at the inauguration of a dam in a central province, it started to rain. "Western countries have designed plans to cause drought in certain areas of the world, including Iran," Mr Ahmadinejad said in the city of Arak in Markazi province.

COMMENT: If it wasn't so sad, it might be funny. This would make a great Disney cartoon. Mahmoud Mickey Mouse on weed.

The Speech: Obama and Israel

After watching Obama and his Middle East policy speech being described by Fox News as a "bombshell" for Israel and further proof of Obama's anti-Israel stance, I have one reaction for Fox. Absolute drivel, clearly motivated by upcoming elections in the US. As regards the Israel-Palestine part of the speech the following might be closer to the truth....

1.Obama called for a two-state solution based on the the 1967 borders with land swaps that would ensure Israeli security. And not a call for a return to the 67 borders, which, even he knows, won't happen. Nothing new here as regards previous administrations.

2.The US will oppose unilateral declaration of independence by the Palestinians at the UN in September. Logical, as it would remove US influence from the process, and would be an empty gesture if the US and Europe do not support it.

3.He mentions the Palestinian refugee problem as an obstacle, which is the most contentious part of the statement, and would immediately end any negotiation between the sides. At worst, an idiotic remark, and at best an empty political statement.

4.The Palestinian Unity Goverment, which includes Hamas, would have to recognise The Jewish State of Israel, as a precondition to talks. Good luck with that one Barack!

5.Obama urges the Palestinians to return to the table they abandoned, while Israel would have to cease settlement activity. Israel froze settlement activity for ten months and the result was.....nada. Hamas would have to recognise Israel's right to exist for the Palestinians to be welcomed at any table.

6.Obama then refers to the "almost deal at Camp David" conveniently forgetting to mention that Israel agreed to the exact deal that Obama is proposing now, and it was rejected by Arafat and the Palestinians. Its time to recognise that the Palestinian Arabs have had every opportunity for a state and rejected all of them. Conclusion: They do not recognise Israel, never have and have no intention of honoring any two state solution.

7. As for Israel, they would be insane to negotiate with anybody right now. The so-called arab spring might just turn out to be a winter of discontent for "democratic" forces.

And the speech? A mixture of Hollywood, good intent, schmaltz  and 'something for everybody election rhetoric.' But for Israel, not a bad outcome and definitely not a "bombshell" as described by Fox News. A week from now....just another good Obama speech.

Success is relative. It is what we can make of the mess we have made of things - T.S. Eliot

The Seed

This week we attended a funeral for holocaust survivor, Chasia Glina. As part of the eulogy, her grandchildren spoke of how her life was dedicated to family and the jewish people, and how proud she was of a thriving and successful Israel. The grandchildren in turn all spoke of their trip to visit the camps in Poland accompanied by their grandmother. She insisted on accompanying them, despite the indescribable anguish this must have caused her. Her grandkids vowed to never forget the holocaust, and to pass the message on to future generations. It was as if Chasia had planted a seed in their souls. As we looked at the faces around us, it was clear that everybody in the crowded synagogue reaffirmed their own pledge. Chasia would have been proud, but not as proud as we are of her. A marvellous woman.....a woman of valour....who out of the ashes of Auschwitz raised a family of believers and rebuilt a Jewish life. One person does make a difference. Helen (Chasia) Glina made a huge difference.

This got me thinking of the bigger picture. How many European Jews survived the holocaust? There are different estimates, and the exact figure is irrelevant to this article. Most estimations are anywhere between 500,000 and a million souls. To put in context, the population of the world today is close on 7 billion people, of which about 14 million are jewish. Think about it. About 85-90 percent of the jewish population of Europe died in Hitlers death camps. Anybody who survived this unspeakable horror, must be quite the survivor. Hundreds of thousands of Chasia's who had survived arguably the greatest evil in history, had to pick themselves up and continue forward. And pick themselves up and continue, they did. Hitler and his cohorts must be rolling in their graves.

This small group of humanity proceeded to change the face of the planet. All with a central purpose in mind. Continuity of family and people. The State of Israel was born, and despite the efforts of her neighbours to finish the job Hitler had begun, not only exists but could easily be described as a miracle in the making. Jewish communities around the world are contributing to mankind. The Cannonball Tree has existed for thousands of years. And the seed that was planted by this small body of people is growing into a Cannonball Tree, anchoring its roots firmly in the ground, spreading its fruit and contributing to our planet. Says Dr. Garry Neil of Johnson and Johnson "For every problem in the world recognized as insoluble, there is one Israeli or more energetically working on it. Its wonderful". He's right. It is wonderful.

Its amazing how success breeds jealosy and that in turn breeds anger and hatred, especially amongst those struggling to compete. The stupidity of the mob gave birth to genocide and God took revenge through his messengers, the survivors.

So, to all those who deny the holocaust and would harm the Jewish people, look into our eyes and into the depths of our soul. You will find Chasia in every one of us, and if you still have the guts, I say.....go for it!
Thank You Chasia, and rest in peace. We will take it from here.

Boycott Israel - Make the World a Safe Place

A Posting from January, for the newer readers.

Thanks to Bruno for this cool Email. A newer version. Couldn't resist publishing this.

Arab and leftist radicals are again talking Israel boycott. To assist my fellow man, I decided to create a list of all the products they should immediately stop using.

A. COMPUTERS

1. Do not buy a computer with an Intel chip, by far the most common one.
2. Do not buy a laptop developed in the 20th century because their chips were all invented in Israel .
3. Do not buy any computer with a Windows NP, XP or Vista, as they were developed by Microsoft's Israel division.
4. Do not use the latest version of Microsoft Office.
5. Do not use a computer fire wall or virus protection software, which were invented by the Israel Defense Forces.
6. Stop using Instant Messengers.
7. And USB flash drives too.
8. Do not use search engines, as the most popular algorithm was developed in Israel .
9. Since Israel is first per capita and second in overall numbers in high tech inventions, just avoid using any computer-related products to make sure that the evil Zionists don't profit.
B. MODERN TECHNOLOGY

1. Do not use the camera function on your cell phone.
2. And don't use the voicemail feature either.
3. Do not use the virtual keyboard, such as those on iPhones.
4. Forget that. Cell phones were invented in Israel so stop using them altogether.
5. Similarly stay away from Amazon Kindle.
6. Also make sure to avoid earthquake detectors and tsunami detectors. When covered by a pile of rubble or water, remember, you are making the world safe from Israel .
C. MEDICINE

1. Avoid money-saving generic drugs, as the biggest such pharmaceutical company is Teva of Israel.
2. Make sure your pharmacist does not use Zionist software to properly administer drugs.
3. Do not install baby monitors that prevent the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
4. Women must insist on the use of methods that require radiation in diagnosing breast cancer because radiation-free technology is a Zionist conspiracy.
5. Avoid camera-pills used to diagnose patients.
6. When getting cancer treatment, make sure your radiation kills both cancerous and healthy cells because cancer-targeted treatment is a Zionist plot. Also avoid Medis El Cell Scan diagnoses and detects early stages of cancer.
7. Stay away from treatments for acne, gum disease and fungus.
8. Israel has the highest number of biotech companies per capita and almost 40% of all Nobel Prizes in Medicine were awarded to the (Israeli and non-Israeli) Jews, so just avoid all medicine to be on the safe side.
D. FASHION

1. Do not buy seamless clothing as this is an Israeli patent.
2. DKNY, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Joseph Abboude, Kenneth Cole, Isaac Mizrahi, Marc Jacobs, Anne Klein - all Jews. Stick to wearing the latest in anti-Zionist fashion: the burqa.
E. ECONOMICS

1. "The Game Theory" was invented by the Zionists, obviously to oppress the Palestinians.
2. You must avoid using any recognized methods by which a government can grow its economy because most economic theories, from Karl Marx on the left to Ludwig von Mises on the right, and most of the ideas in the middle were developed by the Jews. Remember, more than a third of all Nobel Prizes in Economics were given to the Hebrew tribe, so avoid using any fiscal policies recognized by economists. Who needs Jewish economists when you can smoke hookah in a cave?
F. EDUCATION

1. Israel has the highest percentage of its population with PhDs and other graduate degrees.
2. Israel is first per capita in papers published by scientific journals.
3. Israel is first per capita in patents.
4. Israel is second per capita in the number of books published.
5. You get the point. Just avoid education. It's obviously a Zionist trap.
This list is really getting too long. For those interested in boycotting Israel and creating territories free of Jews, it would be best to consult their intellectual forbearers. No need to elaborate.

I cannot think we are useless or God would not have created us - Geronimo ( I wonder what he would say if he was around today?)

Israel - Follow the Money

1.SDS wins Indian night vision equipment order
SDS - Star Defense Systems Ltd. (TASE:SDS) has received a NIS 153 million order for three types of night vision equipment for targeting and observation from India's Ministry of Defense. Deliveries will begin in the third quarter and continue through 2012. The order brings SDS's orders backlog to NIS 250 million. The company says that it expects follow-on orders from India.

2.Korean Aerospace set to buy big in Israel

Ahead of the Ministry of Defense decision on the Air Force's new jet trainer, a senior executive from Korean Aerospace Industries Ltd. has come to Israel to try to persuade Israeli officials to pick the company's T-50 Golden Eagle. irrespective of the pending deal, Korean Aerospace had bought many components from Israeli defense companies, amounting to about $400 million. Song expects that, in view of South Korea's developing aerospace industry, procurements from Israeli defense companies will expand in the coming years. He predicts that the figure could reach $800 million.

3.Intel Israel to produce new Ivy Bridge processor

Intel Israel Ltd. will produce Intel Corporation's (Nasdaq: INTC) new Ivy Bridge processor, even though Intel Israel did not develop the technology. Intel unveiled its next-general Ivy Bridge processor yesterday at a virtual event, which the company touted as the "most important technology announcement of the year." Israel’s foreign exchange reserves rose to a new record of $77.41 billion at the end of April 2011, $2.88 billion more than at the end of March, the Bank of Israel reported today.

4.Foreign currency reserves rise to record $77.4 billion!

Israel’s foreign exchange reserves rose to a new record of $77.41 billion at the end of April 2011, $2.88 billion more than at the end of March, the Bank of Israel reported today. In comparison, Canada has 63B, Australia 41B, Iran 75B and Norway 53B.

COMMENT: Not bad for a country that has a huge defense budget.

5.Elbit Systems wins €43m Macedonian Army contract

Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) has won a €43 million contract to set up a helicopter pilot training center for Macedonia's Defense and Security Forces. Elbit Systems will purchase the aircraft, supply full mission simulators and operate the center to qualify new pilots and train current ones.

6."There's an Israeli working on every problem the world calls insoluble"

"For every problem in the world recognized an insoluble, there is one Israeli or more energetically working on it," says Dr. Garry Neil, corporate vice president at the Corporate Office of Science and Technology (COSAT) at J&J, in an exclusive interview with "Globes." COSAT is responsible for J&J's early stage cooperation with academic instructions and young companies. "The book 'Start-up Nation' sums it up well. Israelis aren't afraid of technology and want to solve problems. Apart from that, because everybody knows everybody, they gladly exchange information. It's wonderful."

7.Why Koreans study Talmud

Almost every house in South Korea has a translated Talmud. Moreover, the South Koreans have made the collection of ancient rabbinic writings on Jewish civil and religious law part of their school curriculum's compulsory literature. But unlike Israel, even Korean mothers study it and read from it to their young children. Yes, in a country of almost 49 million people who believe in Buddhism and Christianity, there are more people who read the Talmud – or at least have a copy of it at home – than in the Jewish state. Much more.

Honor Killings

Israeli hasbara is often criticized. My question is, how does one tell the truth without the civilzed world wondering whether we are smoking weed?

An Inside Look at Palestinian Authority Society: Honor Killings by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

The case of 20-year-old Arab woman, found murdered near Hevron after disappearing a year ago, offers a rare close-up of “honor killings” in the Palestinian Authority as well as other Muslim Arab societies.
The Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency, closely linked with the Palestinian Authority, reported this week that police found the body of the young woman in a well a mile from her home and arrested her uncle, who confessed to murdering her.

The Arab news agency quoted Arab Hevron police officer Ramadan Awad as saying that the facts of the case were so shocking that "as we interrogated her uncle, the people in the room could hardly hold back tears."

The woman was studying at Hebron University when she disappeared in April 2010. Although she was described by classmates as chaste, Awad said one man had proposed marriage to her, but her family refused to consent.

Convinced of an illicit relationship, the uncle confessed he and three friends stuffed her into the trunk of their car, where she was sprayed unconscious with gas to prevent her from shouting.

Before she was murdered, she regained consciousness and begged for her life.

“I drove to the Khallat Salman area, where we tied a rope around her body and dropped her into the well," Ayah's uncle told police. She pleaded, “Please don't throw me into the well. What did I do to be killed? Uncle! Please help, help … don't kill me."

Officers said it took two days to retrieve her body parts from the unused well. The police also found her handbag, identity cards and two photos of her brothers studying in the Ukraine.

The man who wanted to marry her told Ma'an, "This is not an uncle, neither is he a human being even. He is brutal. How did he imagine that bluff about an [improper] relationship between me and her? What baseless imaginations led him to that conclusion?”

Honor killings are common through the Palestinian Authority, where laws based on legislation from the Ottoman Empire and the Jordanian occupation in 1948 allow courts to commute sentences for men who carry them out.

The Palestinian Authority has not repealed the laws even though PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas two years again signed the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

Obama The American

Obama the American. Maybe its only me, but that statement sounds quite awkward. He comes off as this very left wing citizen of the world type. More a leader of the elite left than president of the US. The more I see of this man, the more fascinating he becomes. Is he on a learning curve? Consider his history.

Obama Snr. born in Kenya, a muslim, started out life by herding goats, eventually earning a scholarship that allowed him to leave Kenya and pursue his dreams of college in Hawaii. While studying at the University of Hawaii in Manoa, Obama, Sr. met fellow student, Ann Dunham. They married on February 2, 1961. Barack was born six months later. Obama's parents separated when he was two years old, later divorcing. Obama, Sr. went on to Harvard to pursue Ph.D. studies, and then returned to Kenya in 1965, where he was killed in a car accident. Lets stop here, and examine the situation. So Obama snr, a muslim in Kenya, went from herding goats to a PHD at Harvard. Anybody who has visited Kenya, will tell you that is quite a remarkable feat. In fact it rivals Obama junior's rise to fame in the context of "coming from nowhere".

And then Senior and mom divorce, and Dad abandons 2 year old junior to further his studies, thereafter returning to Kenya, where junior only briefly meets with him in 1971 and never sees him again. That in itself must be quite a story. Mom then marries Lolo Soetero, another muslim, and off they go to Indonesia where Maya his half sister is born. At the age of ten, mom, worried about his safety, sends Junior back to Hawaii, where he lives with his grandparents until joined later by mom and Maya. The rest is history, and includes awareness of his colour, the contoversial relationship with Rev Wright and his graduation from Harvard.

We glean a little more of the man when in the eighties he makes an emotional visit to the graves of his biological father and paternal grandfather. "For a long time I sat between the two graves and wept," Obama said. "I saw that my life in America—the black life, the white life, the sense of abandonment I felt as a boy, the frustration and hope I'd witnessed in Chicago—all of it was connected with this small plot of earth an ocean away."

And now to Obama the President. First off, he visits where? You guessed it. Indonesia, where he makes the now famous speech to the muslim world extending his hand in friendship. At the time We described it as shaking hands with a crocodile. Next he bulldozed the israelis into a 10 month settlement freeze, which, by the way, according to Abbas, was an American plan. This fits in perfectly with predominant left thought. (The key to peace are the settlements). according to Newsweek, Abbas notes that he was disappointed by Obama, who gave in to pressure by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and suspended his demand for a construction freeze in the settlements. "We both went up the tree," Abbas told Newsweek. "After that, he came down with a ladder and he removed the ladder and said to me, jump." Abandonment?

Then long time friend and ally, Mubarak is thrown under the bus on national TV. Obama finds himself torn between his left leaning ideology (the people, democracy etc.) and US interests. Abandoned and humiliated, the rest of the Arab world take one look at what is happening, and immediately new alignments are initiated. So lets jump to last November elections, where the long suffering public hand junior a thrashing. Result? Junior moves towards the middle, alienating the far left and speaker Pelosi, who is furious. Are we seeing a pattern yet?

And now the kicker. Osama Bin Laden turned into fishfood by US Navy Seals, on junior's orders. Truth be told, Obama had nothing to lose by targeting Bin Laden, whether the op succeeded or failed. However, something much more astonishing might be happening here. In one fell blow, junior has united most Americans. Even Navy Seal Team 6, who lets face it, are not left leaning elitists, are cheering him. Has Barack Obama finally found his home in America. Is the metamorphosis real? Has he abandoned Pelosi and co? And is he now President of The United States and no longer citizen of the world?  Who will win the struggle? A man seeking re-election at all costs, or a man who has discovered leadership?

The Muslim World

1.Gulf Arab states expressed deep concern on Sunday over what they called Iranian nterference in their internal affairs, in a statement issued after a foreign affairs meeting in the Saudi capital Riyadh. The statement rejected Iran's "continuing interference" in the internal affairs of the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, after Shi'ite Iran criticised Saudi Arabia for sending troops to Bahrain which faces protests by majority Shi'ites against the island state's Sunni ruling family. (Reuters)
COMMENT: Six of one and half a dozen of the other. Sunni vs Shia
2.An Egyptian military tribunal has convicted a blogger of insulting the army after he publicized reports of abuses by the military, and sentenced him to three years in prison, human rights groups said Monday. The military court issued the sentence against Maikel Nabil Sanad, 26, Sunday without the presence of his lawyers, according to a statement by seven Cairo-based rights groups. (AP)
COMMENT: Same old....Egypt Military vs Activist
3.From the WSJ-Pakistan has privately demanded the Central Intelligence Agency suspend drone strikes against militants on its territory, one of the U.S.'s most effective weapons against al Qaeda and Taliban leaders, officials said. Pakistan has also asked the U.S. to reduce the number of U.S. intelligence and Special Operations personnel in the country, according to U.S. and Pakistani officials. Officials in both countries saying intelligence ties are at their lowest point since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks spurred the alliance.
COMMENT: Islam vs America
4.Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended a Cabinet meeting Sunday after more than a week's absence that raised tension with the country's supreme leader, state TV reported. Ahmadinejad's decision to back down and attend is likely an attempt to avoid backlash from Khamenei, who has been a strong supporter of the president. The recent confrontation between Ahmadinejad and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei involved the president's dismissal last month of the country's most powerful intelligence chief, Heidar Moslehi. Khamenei quickly reinstated Moslehi in a slap to Ahmadinejad. In apparent protest, the president skipped two Cabinet meetings this past week. (AP)
COMMENT: Looks like all is not quiet on the eastern front...
5.Iran has been hit by a second computer virus, a senior military official said Monday, suggesting it was part of a concerted campaign to undermine the country's disputed nuclear program. Gholam Reza Jalali, the head of an Iranian military unit in charge of combatting sabotage, said that experts discovered the "espionage virus," which he called "Stars." "Stars" is the second serious computer worm to hit Iran in the past eight months. Late last year, a powerful virus known as Stuxnet targeted the country's nuclear facilities and other industrial sites.
COMMENT: Definitely not quiet.
Turkish officials visited Damascus last week while the Turkish National Security Council met at for a
“refugee summit” and urged “friendly Syria” to halt the violence and ensure freedom for Syrians. Assad’s tanks and soldiers turned a deaf ear and murdered more than 65 Syrian protesters the following day.“Yet, despite strong economic ties, Erdogan does not appear to have the ear of either Assad or [Libyan dictator Muammar] Qaddafi," correspondent Pelin Turgut wrote. Turkey has dropped close ties with Israel for the sake of befriending the Iranian-Syrian-Hizbullah terror axis, and now it is finding itself increasingly on the wrong side of the diplomatic fence.
COMMENT:Turkey has (had?) major financial investments in Syria and Turkey. Now they face a potentially destabilising refugee problem out of Syria. Maybe they should apologise for trying to con the world into believing that Israel is the culprit....

6.This piece would not be complete without a comment on Osama. President Obama has silenced many critics with his decisive handling of this affair. In the eyes of many Americans (and others) he has lost his wimp image. Politically he should try and build on this temporary unity in the US to build non-partizan co-operation. Physcologically, the death of Ben Laden sends a strong message to other would-be terrorists. In reality, Ben Laden was was almost non-existent as a physical threat for many years and was more of a figurehead PR type. The snake is alive and well in the form of AQAP (Al Qaeda Arabian Peninsula), and we will be hearing a lot more about this hard core organization in the not too distant future.
