Obama the American. Maybe its only me, but that statement sounds quite awkward. He comes off as this very left wing citizen of the world type. More a leader of the elite left than president of the US. The more I see of this man, the more fascinating he becomes. Is he on a learning curve? Consider his history.
Obama Snr. born in Kenya, a muslim, started out life by herding goats, eventually earning a scholarship that allowed him to leave Kenya and pursue his dreams of college in Hawaii. While studying at the University of Hawaii in Manoa, Obama, Sr. met fellow student, Ann Dunham. They married on February 2, 1961. Barack was born six months later. Obama's parents separated when he was two years old, later divorcing. Obama, Sr. went on to Harvard to pursue Ph.D. studies, and then returned to Kenya in 1965, where he was killed in a car accident. Lets stop here, and examine the situation. So Obama snr, a muslim in Kenya, went from herding goats to a PHD at Harvard. Anybody who has visited Kenya, will tell you that is quite a remarkable feat. In fact it rivals Obama junior's rise to fame in the context of "coming from nowhere".
And then Senior and mom divorce, and Dad abandons 2 year old junior to further his studies, thereafter returning to Kenya, where junior only briefly meets with him in 1971 and never sees him again. That in itself must be quite a story. Mom then marries Lolo Soetero, another muslim, and off they go to Indonesia where Maya his half sister is born. At the age of ten, mom, worried about his safety, sends Junior back to Hawaii, where he lives with his grandparents until joined later by mom and Maya. The rest is history, and includes awareness of his colour, the contoversial relationship with Rev Wright and his graduation from Harvard.
We glean a little more of the man when in the eighties he makes an emotional visit to the graves of his biological father and paternal grandfather. "For a long time I sat between the two graves and wept," Obama said. "I saw that my life in America—the black life, the white life, the sense of abandonment I felt as a boy, the frustration and hope I'd witnessed in Chicago—all of it was connected with this small plot of earth an ocean away."
And now to Obama the President. First off, he visits where? You guessed it. Indonesia, where he makes the now famous speech to the muslim world extending his hand in friendship. At the time We described it as shaking hands with a crocodile. Next he bulldozed the israelis into a 10 month settlement freeze, which, by the way, according to Abbas, was an American plan. This fits in perfectly with predominant left thought. (The key to peace are the settlements). according to Newsweek, Abbas notes that he was disappointed by Obama, who gave in to pressure by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and suspended his demand for a construction freeze in the settlements. "We both went up the tree," Abbas told Newsweek. "After that, he came down with a ladder and he removed the ladder and said to me, jump." Abandonment?
Then long time friend and ally, Mubarak is thrown under the bus on national TV. Obama finds himself torn between his left leaning ideology (the people, democracy etc.) and US interests. Abandoned and humiliated, the rest of the Arab world take one look at what is happening, and immediately new alignments are initiated. So lets jump to last November elections, where the long suffering public hand junior a thrashing. Result? Junior moves towards the middle, alienating the far left and speaker Pelosi, who is furious. Are we seeing a pattern yet?
And now the kicker. Osama Bin Laden turned into fishfood by US Navy Seals, on junior's orders. Truth be told, Obama had nothing to lose by targeting Bin Laden, whether the op succeeded or failed. However, something much more astonishing might be happening here. In one fell blow, junior has united most Americans. Even Navy Seal Team 6, who lets face it, are not left leaning elitists, are cheering him. Has Barack Obama finally found his home in America. Is the metamorphosis real? Has he abandoned Pelosi and co? And is he now President of The United States and no longer citizen of the world? Who will win the struggle? A man seeking re-election at all costs, or a man who has discovered leadership?
